This is the FIRST trailer for #SpiderManHomecoming starring Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr. and more, in theaters July 7th. In it we’re introduced to a cast of characters we’re familiar with Spidey, Iron Man etc. But every other utility player seems to be arbitrarily “other.” I’m all for inclusion but when it is done this way it seems like appeasement. I’m sure there is potential for larger roles in this film for “diverse” actors, Zendaya seems to be in the high school crew of Spiderman. But the chances for non traditional casting were only taken in the sidekick capacity. Can we argue that there is a right way to do Diversity but that this could not be it it? Or should we just applaud the effort and be happy every role in the film isn’t white as per usual?
